He teaches courses on a variety of Renaissance topics, and his research interests range from Elizabethan England to colonial America. He has published two books, Temperate Conquests: Spenser and the Spanish New World and New World, Known World: Shaping Knowledge in Early Anglo-American Writing, as well as essays on Edmund Spenser, William Shakespeare, Sir Walter Raleigh, Captain John Smith, and William Bradford.
