The 2000-2001 Weltin Lecture in Early Christianity

Professor J Patout Burns is the Edward A. Malloy Professor of Catholic Studies at Vanderbilt Divinity School. He received his liberal arts education at Spring Hill College (AB, MA) and completed his seminary degrees at Regis College (MDiv) and University of St. Michael’s College (ThM) before undertaking doctoral studies in the history of theology at Yale University (PhD). Prof. Burns has taught in the Divinity School and Theology Department of Loyola University of Chicago, at the University of Florida, and Washington University in St. Louis before joining the faculty of Vanderbilt University. He is the co-editor of the Journal of Early Christianity Studies. His research focuses on Christianity in Roman Africa.
