Prof. Gary B Ferngren

Professor Gary B Ferngren is a Professor of History at Oregon State University. He completed his undergraduate studies at Western Washington University (1964). He received his M.A. (1967) and Ph.D. (1973) degrees from the University of British Columbia. He has taught Greek and Roman history at Oregon State since 1970. Prof. Ferngren's research interests focus on the social history of ancient medicine, religion and ancient medicine, and the historical relationship of science to religion. He is the author of numerous articles and book chapters, and has two books forthcoming: The History of Science and Religion in the Western Tradition: An Encyclopedia and From Athens to Jerusalem: Medicine in Hellenized Jewish Lore and Early Christian Literature.
